The Silafrica Mission
Here at Silafrica we’re known for making packaging. But what we’re equally proud of is our efforts to help make the environment “roar.” While it may not be readily evident to the majority of the outside world, within our organization you’ll discover a dynamic and purposeful commitment to creating responsible, sustainable solutions that respect the earth and all its creatures.
Take a closer look and you’ll find this pledge hard at work, from the board room to the manufacturing floor, and everywhere in between. It’s more than a pledge. It’s people, partners and processes working together with greater efficiency and purpose for a better planet.
Aligning with The U.N.’s Global Initiative
We’re proud to contribute towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Guided by these goals, Silafrica has committed significant organizational resources, effort and time to do our part in helping to help end poverty, fight inequality and stop the effects of climate change to build a better planet for everyone.
To help achieve these goals, Silafrica is committing 10% of our manufacturing capacity to make the communities more livable and vibrant places where people can thrive and prosper.
Clean water and Sanitation (Initiative #6)
Silafrica supports the huge strides that are being made with access to clean drinking water and improving sanitation to eliminate unnecessary disease and death. Our commitment to a sustainable environment is evident in our manufacturing efforts to provide long-lasting water storage tanks for water conservation and rainwater harvesting along with affordable washbasins for schools and low-income homes in the communities we serve. We’re also proud for our partnership with Lixil’s SATO to develop a range of affordable rural toilets by providing affordable equipment and education in hygiene practices, Silafrica is doing its parts to help stop the senseless suffering and loss of life.
Affordable and Clean Energy (Initiative #7)
With renewable energy solutions becoming less expensive, more reliable and more efficient every day, Silafrica continues to be committed to greater energy efficiency through technology and innovation. Each Silafrica location – Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania – is empowered to identify efficiencies in all areas of operations that will help maximize manufacturing efficiencies while conserving energy consumption and minimizing the use of packaging materials.
In achieving these goals, Silafrica operates at the highest factory standards and operational excellence and has been FSSC ISO 2200 and ISO 9000 certified.
Decent Work and Economic Growth (Initiative #8)
Silafrica believes that economic growth should be a positive force throughout Africa and across the entire planet. This is why we must ensure that financial progress creates decent and rewarding jobs without adversely impacting the environment. We must protect labor rights and once and for all, put a stop to modern slavery and child labor. By promoting job creation with expanded access to wealth creation and financial services, Silafrica seeks to help ensure that everyone benefits from business prosperity and innovation.
Industry Innovation and Infrastructure (Initiative #9)
Innovation and technology not only give Silafrica the capabilities to provide outstanding packaging solutions to its customers, they also offer opportunities for greater efficiencies in energy consumption, run times, material use and labor. Through ongoing research and acquisitions of the most inventive machinery and equipment, we’re demonstrating our priority to employ the most relevant, leading-edge technology solutions in support of a brighter future for packaging, people, and most importantly, the planet.
Whether client partner or supply chain partner, Silafrica works closely through valued business relationships that align with “green” objectives up and down the manufacturing ladder so that all stakeholders are empowered to meet, and whenever possible, exceed their corporate sustainability missions and environmental goals.
Responsible Consumption & Production (Initiative #12)
Our manufacturing operations require plastic materials and we are constantly developing new ways to minimize the amount needed by sourcing the most innovative technology solutions that enable us to do more with less – reducing plastic materials and packaging consumption. Our efforts have helped to minimize packaging and manufacturing waste, and we’ve established a rigorous recycling program at all our facilities to further reduce our footprint on the earth.

Climate Action/Life Below Water (Initiative #13/14)
Climate change is a clear and present threat, on both land in the seas. The effects are already visible and are forecast to be catastrophic unless we act now. Through the education of Silafrica’s working community, implementation of equipment innovations, and modernization of manufacturing facilities we are making the necessary changes and improvements to protect the future of our planet and all its inhabitants. These changes also provide huge opportunities to create new jobs and promote greater prosperity across the globe.

We have no greater concern than that for the well-being and long life of our extended Silafrica family. Today, we’re investing in their health and longevity in a variety of ways, including training in safety, wellness through yoga, general health awareness, blood donation drives and disaster relief with clean water storage.
